Maalhos to allocate 3 lands for city hotels
Baa atoll Maalhos Council’s President Abdulla Sujau said that final preparations are underway to release three lands measuring 39,000 square feet from the island’s eastern side to develop city hotels.
The final administrative works are being done to get permission from the federal Government and put up the project for tender in September.
“We aim to hand over the lands to the successful bidders in September,” Sujau said.
He said that the Council is pondering whether to give special consideration to the bidders who include a social responsibility program for the development of the community. The main objective of the project is to expand industry and create employment opportunities in the island, Sujau said. It is expected that the city hotels project can create 200 jobs in the island.
Maalhos, which is close to the atoll’s Dharavandhoo island that has a regional airport, is already home to some guesthouses operated privately.
