Expats in Maalhos build park for free
Expatriates working in Baa atoll Maalhos have started constructing — for free — a park for adults at the island’s harbor.
Maalhos Council’s President Abdulla Shujau said that 27 expats are engaged in the work, with material and equipment provided by the Council.
The expats decided to carry out the work without charge at a meeting recently held with the Council.
The cost of the project is expected at around MVR 150,000 (USD 9,727) and funds are sourced from the Council as well as from well-wishers.
The park will serve as a transit area for travelers to the island, and as a relaxing point for Maalhos community.
Work on the park began last week; every night after Tarawih prayer, the expats engage in building the park.
Maalhos Council also appealed to local residents to participate in the works.
Maalhos has a local population of around 600 and is one of the islands in Baa atoll which is home to a considerable number of expatriate workers.
