Baa Atoll Quran recitation competition begins with 71 students
The inter-atoll Quran recitation contest organized by Baa Atoll Council was launched last night in Eydhafushi island.
The Baa Atoll Quran Recitation Competition is participated by 71 students from 8 islands in the atoll. They are Hithaadhoo, Thulhaadhoo, Kendhoo, Maalhos, Kihaadhoo, Dhonfanu, Kamadhoo and Eydhafushi.
The ceremony was inaugurated at the community’s Multi-Purpose Hall by Baa Atoll Education Center’s graduate leading teacher and Islam lecturer Sheikh Mohamed Habeeb.
He called on participants to regard Quran recitation and practice as receiving divine blessing and reward and, therefore, to pursue such effort with noble and righteous intention.
“What we are doing today is the most noble act that can be performed on this Earth. It is priceless. Though we might not see the results today, what we are gathering for later is enormous. But such benefits can be garnered if we do it with the best of intentions,” Habeeb said.
The competition will conclude tonight and winners of the contest will be announced tomorrow morning, according the Council.
The competition is held to choose participants who will represent Baa atoll at the annual Maldives’ National Quran Recitation Competition held in the capital Male’. Accordingly, 15 outstanding students from the Baa atoll contest will take part in the national competition.
