Eydhafushi member of parliament (MP) Ahmed ‘Red Wave’ Saleem has donated MVR 50,000 (USD 3,242) to the setting up of a children’s park in Baa atoll Hithaadhoo island. The MP representing the atoll’s capital handed over the funds to Hithaadhoo’s Hidhaa Jamiyya.

Saleem said that the assistance was aimed at adding impetus to works conducted by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the UNESCO heritage atoll. He said such assistance will be extended in future, too.

Saleem, who has already revealed his intention of running for the parliamentary seat again, has been recently extending such extensive aid to other islands in the atoll. In September, he donated 150 bags of cement to Maalhos, on the request of the council to construct an outer breakwater for the island. He had also extended a huge cash assistance to Eydhafushi Football Team, which won the Maldives 50th independence anniversary Minivan 50 championship.

Saleem has pledged – on the request of Eydhafushi youth – to lay turf on Eydhafushi’s official stadium.

Saleem, who is the Eydhafushi MP since 2009, has been lending individual assistance to people as well.
