Parents are taking part alongside students in Baa atoll capital Eydhafushi island to memorize and recite the Holy Quran properly.

While 122 children are enrolled at the Eydhafushi branch of the Quran Centre, classes for adults are also conducted. A Quran memorization program for parents were launched on Sunday, as parents’ familiarity with the Quran will allow them to help out with their children.

Forty parents who completed Level One of the course has been certified.

Eydhafushi Council President Tholal Abdul Rahman said that the course, which charges a monthly fee of MVR 100 (USD 6) is well-received.

He said that it is hoped that parents are encouraged from this program.

A Hafiz from Sudan is conducting the classes in Eydhafushi.

Tholal said that this is a new chapter in Islamic education and that the objective is to create a generation who has memorized the Quran.

Such a course was conducted at the Eydhafushi branch of the Quran Centre last year as well. Participants completed the program to Level One and are now preparing to begin Level Two.
