Eight teams are participating the Baa Atoll Football Challenge slated for 3-17 December.

The islands taking part are the capital Eydhafushi, Goidhoo, Fulhadhoo, Fehendhoo, Kuda Rikilu, Dharavandhoo, Maalhos and Dhonfanu.

Kihadhoo, which partook during the past consecutive three years, are not in competition, according to organizers Eydhafushi’s U-Sports.

Each island’s Council will compile the team to represent their respective community.

Organized by former Maldives National Football Team defender Mohamed “Jambe” Jameel to showcase Baa atoll footballers and facilitate them to play in the country’s First Division, the Ooredoo Dhivehi Premiere League held at the National Stadium in the federal capital Male’, each island can employ three non-native players and five Premiere League soccerites. However, only three “outsiders” can appear simultaneously during playtime. Last year also saw many famous national players in the game.

The tourney’s steering committee is currently searching for sponsors and making other arrangements. Interested sponsors can call the numbers (960) 7772861 and (960) 7992334.

Many talents are emerging from the championship which was introduced in 2012. Goidhoo won last year the third tournament – by 4-1 over Eydhafushi.
