A teenaged Eydhafushi — which pitched an inexperienced young team of mostly 17- to 18-year-olds — still managed to impressively draw 2-2 with seasoned Dharavandhoo, while Fehendhoo shot down Kuda Rikilu 2-1 at the Baa Atoll Football Challenge today in Eydhafushi.

Fehendhoo’s Ahmed Nizam scored first during the 61st minute when Kuda Rikilu equalized four minutes later with a goal from Ahmed Riyaz. However, Fehendhoo’s Ahmed Shan sealed the winner at the 76th.

Both Eydhafushi and Dharavandhoo put up a strong performance throughout their clash.

Eydhafushi Football Team, who are looking to replace senior players by pitching mostly 17- to 18- year-olds, had ample opportunity but failed to find home.

Dharavandhoo’s Niyaz scored first, at the 9th minute, while teammate Ahmed Ahsham widened the lead in the latter part of the second half.

However, Eydhafushi’s Ishan “Sattu” Ibrahim struck the net at the 52nd, and helped end the match in a draw by scoring during extra time.

    Maalhos vs Goidhoo, 1550 hours

Eydhafushi’s sporting store U Sports is conducting the tourney in collaboration with Eydhafushi Youth Development.

This is the fourth year of the tournament which is participated by eight islands of the atoll.

The main sponsor of the tournament is U-Sports and co-sponsors are Dhiraagu, Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), Red Wave, and Eydhafushi’s Kelin shop. Eydhafushi Times (ET) is once again the online media partner.
