Goidhoo defends Baa atoll bashi cup
Baa atoll Goidhoo on Friday beat capital Eydhafushi to defend the atoll council’s 3rd bashi tournament trophy.
Goidhoo, which faced Eydhafushi in last year’s final as well, won the traditional women’s sporting event by only a difference of 11 foali.
Both teams otherwise drew with 27 points.
Along with the trophy, Goidhoo was given a MVR 25,000 (USD 1,621) cash prize.
Runners-up Eydhafushi was awarded a MVR 15,000 (USD 972) cash prize.
The fair play team of the championship was Hithaadhoo.
Fathimath Milna of Goidhoo defended her title of Queen-of-the-Tournament by having checkmated the most foali and scoring 1,058 points.
Eydhafushi’s Hawwa Abdul Rahman caught the most foali.
Hithaadhoo’s Nazaahath Ishaq was the Rookie of the championship.
Goidhoo’s Aminath Shahida and Maalhos’ Aminath Nafeesa round up the ‘top five’ players of the event.
Five teams were vying for this year’s cup, including Kihaadhoo.
Baa Atoll Council had provided a cash assistance of MVR 4,000 (USD 259) to each island to participate the atoll-wide sporting spectacle.
