Defending champions Fehendhoo face Kuda Rikilu at the inaugural match of the Baa Atoll Football Challenge on Sunday – to be held at the official stadium of the atoll capital Eydhafushi.

Maalhos’ withdrawal from the championship, organized by Eydhafushi’s U Sports, resulted in a change of schedule, where earlier Eydhafushi was to face Kihaadhoo in the opening match.

Maalhos withdrew after the teams were drawn into groups, citing financial constraints and lack of players currently in the island.

Group A now consists only of Eydhafushi and Kihaadhoo, and according to the new schedule, both are automatically qualified for the semi finals. The change also means two matches against each other for Eydhafushi and Kihaadhoo, to determine which team top their group before the semi finals.

Goidhoo rounds up Group B, and the group matches will be held from 4 to 8 December.

Semi finals are to be played on 10 and 11 December, while the final is scheduled for 13 December.

This is the 4th year that the tournament is conducted.

Red Wave is the main sponsor while the co-sponsor is Araabee, and Dhiraagu the telecommunications partner. Eydhafushi Times (ET) is the online media partner this year as well.
