Goidhoo on Sunday won 2-0 over Kihaadhoo the second semi final match, and enters for the fourth time the final of Baa Atoll Football Challenge. Like last year, Goidhoo will face defending champions Fehendhoo, at the final match to be held on Tuesday at Baa atoll capital Eydhafushi’s official stadium.
Both teams today finished the game with one player each red carded. Kihaadhoo’s striker Hussain Eemaan was red carded in the 71st minute when he used profanity at the referee. Goidhoo’s Mohamed Bassaam was shown the red card for a dangerous foul he committed in the 86th minute.
Both goals of Goidhoo, which entered the tournament with international players, was scored by local Adam “Kithunaa” Nizam. The first came in the 39th minute when Kithunaa headed the ball into the net, from a pass by Ishan “Sattu” Ibrahim. The second goal came, just 10 minutes before the end of the game, when Kithunaa shot into the net, after Sattu dribbled past three players of Kihaadhoo.
Goidhoo put up a strong performance right throughout the match and had ample chances to win but failed. Goidhoo had won the championship two times, with last year’s loss to Fehendhoo on penalties.
